Thiruvananthapuram International Airport handled a record 444 metric tonnes (MT) of domestic cargo in October 2026, registering a 9.4 per cent growth over its previous monthly high of 406 MT recorded in June 2026. The latest performance represents an additional 38 MT of cargo handled during the month.

According to a statement issued by the airport on Tuesday, the record growth reflects rising demand for air cargo services from Kerala and increased participation by businesses, courier operators and logistics partners in its domestic cargo network.

Mobile phones emerged as one of the major commodities driving the growth, with larger volumes arriving from Delhi. The airport also witnessed a significant increase in optical lens shipments from Mumbai. Following a logistics partner’s decision to route these consignments through Thiruvananthapuram, lens cargo movement registered growth of over 145 per cent.

Courier and consolidated cargo operations have also gained momentum. Some agencies have started routing outbound consolidated cargo directly from Thiruvananthapuram instead of transporting it through Kochi. Inbound consolidated cargo volumes have also recorded an increase.

Post Office Mail (P.O. Mail) registered growth in both inbound and outbound movements, with the airport expecting the positive trend to continue in the coming months.

Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad emerged as the top five domestic destinations and origin markets for cargo movement, highlighting the airport’s growing connectivity with major commercial and logistics centres across the country.

An airport spokesperson said the record performance reflects growing confidence among businesses and logistics partners in the airport’s domestic cargo capabilities.

The commencement of EXIM operations at Vizhinjam International Seaport is expected to open up further opportunities for the region’s logistics sector. The growing synergy between the seaport and the airport is also expected to strengthen multimodal cargo connectivity, generate additional demand for domestic air cargo movement and position Thiruvananthapuram as an emerging integrated logistics hub.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is managed by TRV (Kerala) International Airport Limited (TIAL), a special purpose vehicle under Adani Airport Holdings Limited.
