In a major step to construct a greenfield international airport at Hosur, the Tamil Nadu government through Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd, has invited proposals from consultants for preparing a Detailed Techno Economic Report.

The State government has identified around 2,300 acres of land in Krishnagiri District for the project, the bid document says without giving the exact location.

The proposed airport is planned with an ultimate handling capacity of 30 million passengers per annum, designed for Aerodrome Code 4E, Precision Approach Cat III and equipped with a single runway, dual parallel taxiway, passenger terminals and cargo facilities, city-side development, and other essential aviation amenities.

The consultant will have to prepare historical passenger and aircraft movements and cargo traffic trends of all airports within 150 km of proposed Hosur airport over the last 15 years (minimum).

The consultant should also assess the impact of nearby airports like Bengaluru International Airport on the proposed Hosur Airport by taking into account KIA expansion plans and to evaluate the growth trajectory of greenfield airport at Hosur, the bid document says.

Existing civil and defence airports in the vicinity of Hosur airport like Bengaluru, Salem, HAL, Yelahanka and Chennai along with notified restrictions should also be identified.

TIDCO is the nodal agency for the development of this Greenfield Airport. The consultant will assist in obtaining statutory clearances and assisting in conducting bid process management for proposed Development Model for Greenfield International Airport in Hosur (“Assignment”), the document says.

In line with the Tamil Nadu State’s vision to enlarge Tier-2 City air connectivity and support regional industrial growth, the Government of Tamil Nadu has proposed to establish a Greenfield International Airport at Hosur, to cater to the requirements of industries and public in the Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri regions.

    Location

The Shoolagiri taluk (located between Berigai and Bagalur) on the Krishnagiri-Hosur highway is one of the two locations identified for the Hosur airport. The other location is 15.5 km from the airstrip of Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Ld (TAAL), east of Hosur city, said sources.
