Kerala’s capital district is set to get its first Container Freight Station (CFS), aimed at supporting the growing cargo volumes and logistics requirements of Vizhinjam International Seaport.
The project is being implemented by Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited (KSIE) at the premises of Travancore Spinning Mills (TSM) in Balaramapuram, as part of the Kerala government’s 100-day action programme.
The foundation stone for the first phase will be laid on September 16 at 4 pm. Industries, Commerce and Information Technology Minister P. K. Kunhalikutty will lay the foundation stone. M. Vincent, MLA, will preside over the function, while Shashi Tharoor, MP, will attend as chief guest.
₹25 Crore Project in Four Phases
The CFS is being developed at an estimated investment of ₹25 crore in four phases. KSIE plans to complete the first phase and commence CFS operations by February 2027.
The facility will provide an integrated platform for cargo-related activities, including customs clearance, cargo handling, warehousing, transportation, documentation and freight forwarding, helping streamline cargo movement through Vizhinjam International Seaport.
The project is also expected to generate employment and entrepreneurship opportunities across port-based logistics and supply-chain services.
KSIE’s KLAS Academy is simultaneously providing industry-oriented logistics skill training to students, supporting the development of a skilled workforce for the emerging logistics ecosystem around Vizhinjam.
