Tunisia’s container ports handled 278,000 TEUs in the first half of 2026, marking a 9% increase from 255,500 TEUs recorded during the same period last year.
Radès remained the country’s largest container gateway, handling 176,400 TEUs, or around 63% of Tunisia’s total throughput. Its volumes increased 6% year on year. Sfax handled 57,800 TEUs, up 5%, while Sousse recorded stronger growth of 20% to 35,300 TEUs.
Bizerte posted the fastest growth among Tunisia’s container ports, with throughput surging 86% to 8,200 TEUs, compared with 4,400 TEUs in H1 2025. La Goulette remained stable at 200 TEUs.
The increase in container traffic comes alongside broader growth in Tunisia’s maritime trade. The country’s seaports handled 14.8 million tonnes of cargo in H1 2026, up 7.3% year on year, indicating stronger overall port activity.
The latest figures highlight continued expansion in Tunisia’s container trade, with growth spread across several major gateways and particularly strong gains at Bizerte and Sousse.
