Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch two barges of Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) in Kochi on Monday.

The ‘Poseidon’ Oil Tanker Barge and ‘Lekshmy’ Acid Barge built by KSINC under the State Coastal Shipping and Inland Navigation Department would be formally launched at a function to be held at Ro-Ro jetty, Bolgatty.

According to a KSINC source, 1,400MT capacity ‘Poseidon’ was built at Vijay Marine Shipyard in Goa, using the state government fund of Rs 12.32 crore and company’s own fund of Rs 3.02 crore. The 300MT capacity barge ‘Lekshmy’ was built at KSINC’s own yard using Rs 3 crore fund from state government fund and Rs 1.5 crore KSINC fund. Now, the company will be able to generate additional income by supplying fuel to ships anchored offshore and by supplying acid to industrial establishments, said KSINC authorities.
