The Uttar Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth ₹200 crore with a leading German engineering and technology firm to modernize and expand the state’s rail infrastructure. The agreement was formalized during a ceremony in Lucknow, attended by state officials and representatives from the German company.

Under the MoU, the funding and technical support will be directed towards upgrading railway stations, signaling systems, track modernization, and freight handling facilities, aimed at improving operational efficiency and passenger safety across the state’s rail network.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities in construction and technology deployment, while also enhancing connectivity for industrial hubs and urban centers in Uttar Pradesh. State transport officials highlighted that the collaboration aligns with broader national initiatives to modernize India’s railway infrastructure using international expertise and investment.

Officials emphasized that this partnership will also facilitate knowledge transfer and adoption of advanced German technologies in signaling, track safety, and station management, laying the groundwork for future smart rail projects in the state. The MoU is slated to be implemented in phases over the next three years, with regular reviews to ensure targets for efficiency, safety, and passenger experience are met.
