    The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported that a Singapore-registered container vessel, WAN HAI A17, was involved in a collision with a Chinese-registered vessel, HAI LI 5, in waters off Guangzhou, China. The incident occurred on 25 October 2025 at about 8 p.m. Singapore time.

    According to information from Wan Hai Lines, WAN HAI A17 remains in stable condition, with no injuries among its 23 crew members and no pollution reported.

    The vessel HAI LI 5 reportedly sank following the collision.

    Chinese authorities have launched search and rescue operations, with two of the 15 crew members still missing.

    WAN HAI A17 is currently being held in port to assist Chinese authorities with their investigation.

    The MPA stated it is in contact with Wan Hai Lines and the Chinese authorities to provide assistance as required. The MPA will also conduct its own investigation into the incident.

    Wan Hai Lines Ltd. is a Taiwan-based container shipping company established in 1965. It operates one of the largest intra-Asia container shipping networks and provides services covering major international trade routes.
