Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport is soaring to new heights with the launch of its first international air cargo route, marking a significant step towards increased global connectivity for the eastern Chinese city. The inaugural flight, operated by JD Airlines, establishes a direct link between Wuhu and Hanoi, Vietnam’s bustling capital.

    Gateway to Global Trade

This new route signifies Wuhu’s strategic focus on expanding its international trade presence. The airport’s authorization to handle international cargo operations, granted in March 2024, paves the way for the efficient movement of goods between Wuhu and key regional markets. The development of a robust international air cargo network is a cornerstone of the city’s ambition to become a competitive player in the air cargo hub landscape.

    Building on a Strong Foundation

Since its opening in April 2021, Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport has demonstrated impressive growth. It has established a well-developed domestic passenger route network with 41 destinations, catering to a growing demand for air travel. Simultaneously, the airport has fostered a burgeoning all-cargo network with 6 established routes, solidifying its role as a key logistics player. Strategically positioned to serve both passenger and cargo traffic, Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport functions as a medium-sized civilian airport with a specialization in air cargo operations.

    Continued Growth Trajectory

Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport’s passenger throughput experienced a remarkable 218% increase in 2023, reaching 1.23 million passengers. This impressive growth is mirrored in the cargo and mail throughput, which surpassed 20,000 tonnes in 2023, reflecting a significant 314% year-on-year growth. The positive trajectory continues in 2024, with cargo and mail throughput reaching 11,600 tonnes in the first five months, representing a 191% increase year-over-year. The launch of the Hanoi route is expected to further accelerate this growth momentum, solidifying Wuhu Xuanzhou Airport’s position as a vital trade link in eastern China.
