More than 6,000 new energy vehicles manufactured by Chinese automaker BYD are being shipped to the UAE following the launch of a new direct maritime route between China’s Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen and Khorfakkan Port in Sharjah.
A large roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel has departed Xiaomo Port carrying 6,068 BYD vehicles bound for Khorfakkan Port. The shipment marks the launch of the direct China-UAE maritime service and is expected to reduce transit time between the two countries by three to five days.
The inaugural shipment has also set a record at Xiaomo International Logistics Port as the largest single vehicle shipment handled by the port.
Khorfakkan Port, operated under the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, will serve as the UAE gateway for the shipment. The new route is designed to provide Chinese exporters with a faster and more direct option for transporting vehicles and other large-scale cargo to the UAE and onward to markets across the Middle East.
The direct maritime connection is also expected to improve supply-chain reliability by reducing potential disruptions affecting vehicle and heavy-equipment shipments between China and the region.
The launch comes amid growing trade and logistics links between China and the UAE, with demand for new energy vehicles expanding across Middle Eastern markets.
