In a significant milestone for freight rail safety and engineering excellence, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) successfully conducted a critical friction buffer test at New Mansurpur Yard. The test was carried out using a 6500 metric tonne load at a controlled speed of 11 kmph, replicating the conditions of a high-impact stop.

Notably, this is only the second time in India that such a test has been undertaken—both times by DFCCIL’s Ambala unit—highlighting the corporation’s pioneering role in advancing rail freight safety standards.

Friction buffer tests play a vital role in ensuring the secure operation of heavy-haul freight trains. By simulating scenarios such as sudden braking or the coupling of loaded wagons, the tests help assess how effectively the buffer systems can absorb and dissipate kinetic energy. This protects the wagons from potential structural damage, prevents derailments, and ensures the safety of valuable cargo being transported across the network.

The successful execution of this complex test underlines DFCCIL’s commitment to technological innovation, operational safety, and the future-readiness of India’s dedicated freight infrastructure. As the backbone of the country’s evolving logistics landscape, DFCCIL continues to set new benchmarks in freight movement efficiency and safety assurance.
