Global shipping major HMM has partnered with logistics technology company MatchLog Solutions to promote large-scale container reuse across India, aiming to cut empty container movements, lower logistics costs, and support sustainable trade.

Through this collaboration, HMM will leverage MatchLog’s digital platform and reuse yards to enable “street-turn” operations, where import containers are directly reused for export bookings instead of being sent back empty to depots. This will improve container turnaround times, enhance operational efficiency, and significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

“This partnership with HMM marks a significant step towards making India’s container logistics greener and smarter,” said Harsh Vardhan Gupta, CEO of MatchLog Solutions. “By combining technology with HMM’s global shipping network, we aim to reduce wasteful movements and support India’s sustainability goals.”

An HMM India spokesperson added, “Container reuse is both a business priority and an environmental responsibility. Working with MatchLog will allow us to optimize asset utilization and deliver more reliable services to our customers.”

The initiative aligns with India’s efforts to improve logistics competitiveness while meeting environmental commitments, setting a model for wider adoption by the shipping industry.
