Indian Railways (IR) has rolled out the country’s first assured transit time container train service between Delhi and Kolkata, marking a milestone in India’s logistics sector. The service, introduced on a pilot basis, guarantees delivery within 120 hours (five days).

The inaugural run commenced on Wednesday, October 1, from the Tughlakabad Inland Container Depot (TICD) in Delhi. The dedicated train operates via the Agra (ICDY) and Kanpur (ICDG) terminals of Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) before reaching the Kolkata terminal (CTKR/CTCS).

    Service highlights:

First assured transit time train on the Delhi–Kolkata corridor.

Transit commitment: 120 hours (five days).

Route: Tughlakabad → Agra → Kanpur → Kolkata.

Frequency: Bi-weekly departures – every Wednesday and Saturday.

Service mode: Door-to-door delivery by CONCOR.

The assured service aims to provide shippers with faster, reliable, and sustainable cargo movement, positioning itself as a competitive alternative to road transport. It is expected to enhance connectivity for northern hinterland cargo and offer priority benefits for early adopters.

Indian Railways highlighted that the service also supports sustainability goals by encouraging a modal shift from road to rail, reducing carbon emissions, and strengthening India’s green logistics commitment.

With this initiative, Indian Railways and CONCOR reaffirm their focus on customer-centric, dependable, and environmentally responsible logistics solutions.
