The government has opened access to the PM Gati Shakti portal for the private sector to help optimise last-mile delivery services and develop infrastructure-based applications. The move aims to improve logistics planning and boost investment through data-driven decision-making.
The query-based web platform provides regulated access to selected non-sensitive datasets from the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), enabling private entities, consultants, researchers and citizens to leverage advanced analytics for infrastructure development.
Launched in October 2021, PM Gati Shakti is an integrated national master plan designed to streamline the development of critical infrastructure projects and reduce logistics costs. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launched the ‘PM GatiShakti Public’ platform via the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI). It has been developed by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) and is powered by the National Geospatial Data Registry (NGDR).
The platform provides access to 230 approved datasets covering physical and social infrastructure assets. Users can conduct site suitability analysis, connectivity mapping, alignment planning, compliance checks, and generate analytical reports based on predefined templates or user-defined criteria. It also allows visualisation of multi-layered geospatial data to improve project design, inter-agency coordination and private sector participation.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced in the Union Budget that selected data and maps from the PM Gati Shakti portal would be shared with private stakeholders. These include railway networks, freight corridors, highways, logistics parks, warehouses, airports and more, enabling development of infrastructure-based apps, smart city solutions and tech-enabled logistics management.
The data can also support healthcare planning, disaster management, agriculture and food distribution. Information on land records, ports, forests, schools, water bodies, telecom towers and highways is already available. Access is enabled through self-registration with strong authentication and data security protocols.
Goyal also released the PM GatiShakti Compendium featuring successful use cases and best practices, and launched the PMGS NMP Dashboard for multi-sector reporting and progress monitoring. In addition, he introduced a Knowledge Management System (KMS) for cross-learning among ministries and states, and unveiled ‘PM GatiShakti – Offshore’, a platform for integrated planning of offshore development.
The Data Uploading and Management System (DUMS) was launched to enhance real-time data ownership, while the PMGS District Master Plan for 112 aspirational districts aims to support local infrastructure development and regional growth.
“PM GatiShakti has emerged as a vital bridge between macro-level planning and micro-level implementation,” Goyal said, noting that the Network Planning Group has evaluated over 300 major infrastructure projects using Gati Shakti principles such as integrated planning, last-mile connectivity and intermodal linkages.
