Shri Vijay Kumar (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), chaired a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to assess the progress of major inland waterways initiatives across the country.

The review covered a detailed assessment of all ongoing projects, including the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP), North Eastern Region (NER) and other key waterways such as the Yamuna and Jhelum. Discussions also focused on the status of traffic movement, fairway maintenance, and the operational readiness of vessels, including the deployment of green vessels aimed at promoting sustainable inland navigation.

The Secretary emphasized the importance of optimizing asset and land utilization, ensuring regular data updation on the Sagarmanthan Portal, and strengthening inter-state coordination through consolidated Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

He further directed officials to fast-track implementation of priority projects and address operational challenges to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the inland water transport ecosystem, which plays a vital role in India’s multimodal logistics framework.
