A senior Hapag-Lloyd delegation visited the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to discuss closer cooperation and potential operational improvements.
The team included Christiaan Goeman Borgesius, Senior Director – RME Operations; Jubil Thankachan, Director of Marine Operations – RME Operations; and Lloyd De Villers, Director of Procurement, accompanied by officers from Hapag-Lloyd’s local agent.
SLPA was represented by Chairman Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe (Rtd), Vice Chairman Eng. Herath M. P. Jayawardhana, Managing Director Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra, Director of Marketing & Business Development U. Kumara, and Acting Director of Operations Pradeep Perera.
The meeting covered ongoing port developments and ways to enhance operations and expand capacity.
Hapag-Lloyd acknowledged the SLPA’s work on port development and highlighted the importance of a reliable, long-term partnership.
Both sides explored opportunities to further improve efficiency and ensure smooth port operations.
In September, the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), held a workshop in Colombo from 8–10 September that focused on port law and public–private partnerships (PPPs).
