The Sultanate of Oman and India convened the 13th Joint Military Cooperation Committee (JMCC) meeting in New Delhi, reaffirming their commitment to deepen defence and strategic collaboration.
Co-chaired by India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Oman’s Secretary General of Defence Mohammed Bin Naseer Bin Ali Al Zaabi, the meeting reviewed ongoing bilateral defence engagements and outlined new areas for expanded cooperation, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Both delegations acknowledged the steady growth of the defence partnership and exchanged assessments on regional and global security dynamics, with a particular focus on the Indian Ocean Region. Officials underscored the importance of enhancing maritime security, intelligence sharing and operational coordination amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
Boost to Defence Industrial Cooperation
A key highlight of the talks was advancing defence industrial collaboration. India and Oman reaffirmed their intent to jointly develop advanced systems, strengthen technology transfer, improve production partnerships and build resilient supply chains. The two sides also emphasised greater interoperability and innovation in emerging defence technologies.
The discussions centred on establishing long-term frameworks to support co-development of platforms, indigenous manufacturing and strategic resilience across the defence ecosystem.
High-Level Engagements
During the visit, Al Zaabi also called on Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth and met Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
General Chauhan held detailed discussions with the Omani official on the proposed Military Logistic Complex, as well as opportunities to expand cooperation in shipbuilding, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and enhanced training exchanges between the armed forces.
Strategic Partnership Reinforced
In an X post, the Ministry of Defence highlighted the “robust defence cooperation” between the two nations and reiterated the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral engagements in multiple domains.
India and Oman maintain a longstanding strategic partnership rooted in deep political ties, defence collaboration, counter-terrorism efforts, maritime security cooperation, and strong economic and energy linkages.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to sustain regular high-level dialogue and accelerate progress across priority defence initiatives.
