Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has created history by becoming the fastest Indian Major Port to handle 100 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in the ongoing financial year 2025–26. Achieved significantly earlier than previous fiscal milestones, the achievement underscores the port’s exceptional operational capabilities, efficient cargo-handling systems, and strong coordination among stakeholders.
This landmark accomplishment reinforces DPA Kandla’s position at the forefront of India’s maritime sector and its reputation as the nation’s most reliable gateway for EXIM trade. The early crossing of the 100 MMT threshold reflects the port’s growing capacity to handle increasing volumes across liquid cargo, dry bulk, break-bulk and containers—solidifying its status as India’s top-performing Major Port.
Propelling India’s Maritime Ambition
DPA Kandla’s record-breaking performance aligns with the government’s push for modernised, efficient and future-ready port infrastructure under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision. It also supports the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, as the port continues to strengthen national logistics efficiency and global maritime competitiveness.
The port’s accelerated achievement is expected to generate wider economic benefits, including:
-
Enhanced competitiveness of India’s maritime ecosystem
-
Stronger support for EXIM trade growth
-
Improved ease of doing business for port users
-
Boosted logistics efficiency across Gujarat and the northern hinterland
Operational Excellence Behind the Milestone
DPA Kandla’s success is driven by its robust operational systems, including high marine and berth productivity, strengthened cargo evacuation mechanisms, and enhanced connectivity with the hinterland. Upgrades to storage yards, logistics infrastructure and digital services have enabled seamless, round-the-clock movement of cargo.
The achievement reflects a coordinated effort across all departments—Traffic, Marine, Mechanical, Civil, CISF Unit DPA, Finance, and Administration. It also highlights the role of port workers (Shramiks), officers, marine pilots, stevedores, shipping lines, CHAs, customs authorities, exporters, importers, and other trade partners.
Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of DPA, congratulated the entire port community and extended gratitude to all stakeholders: “Crossing 100 Million Tons in record time is a proud moment for DPA Kandla and for India’s maritime fraternity. This achievement is the result of the relentless commitment of our Shramik brothers & sisters, officers, employees, marine crew, port users, stakeholders, vessel agents, stevedores, and every individual who contributes to the 24×7 functioning of this Port.
DPA Kandla remains fully aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of positioning India’s maritime sector as a global leader under the Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap. Beyond operational excellence, we are leading India’s green maritime transition through Green Hydrogen and renewable energy initiatives.
This milestone is a collective achievement and a stepping stone to even greater accomplishments in the months ahead.”
Looking Ahead
With major capacity-enhancement projects under implementation, deeper digital integration, and a strong push towards green energy adoption, DPA Kandla is poised to scale new heights. The port’s forward-looking initiatives will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s maritime growth and strengthening its global standing.
DPA Kandla’s latest achievement marks not just a record—but a new benchmark for the nation’s port sector.
