Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed a major shipbuilding contract with Denmark-based Svitzer A/S for the construction of four fully electric, 70-ton bollard pull TRAnsverse tugs, marking a significant step forward in sustainable maritime operations.
The agreement was formalised by Dr. Harikrishnan S., Director (Operations), CSL, in the presence of Mr. Harikumar, CEO of Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), and Mr. Nagesh Krishnamoorthy, General Manager (Business Development). Representing Svitzer A/S were CEO Mr. Kasper Nilaus and CFO Mr. Knud Winkler.
These next-generation electric tugs are designed to offer high manoeuvrability and superior performance, capable of handling complex towage configurations across diverse vessel types and sizes. Engineered for reliability in harsh weather and strong tidal environments, the vessels will enhance sustainable port and terminal operations across Europe, America and Australia.
The contract reinforces CSL’s growing presence in the global green vessel segment and strengthens Svitzer’s commitment to reducing emissions across its international fleet.
