A high-level delegation from the Belgian Hydrogen Council today visited the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) at Kandla, marking an important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the green hydrogen and sustainable maritime development sectors.
The visiting delegation held in-depth discussions with Shri Nilabhra Dasgupta, IRS, Deputy Chairman of DPA, on future plans and collaborative avenues for advancing green hydrogen initiatives at the Kandla port. The interaction focused on leveraging global expertise and fostering partnerships to accelerate the port’s clean energy transformation.
As part of the programme, the Belgian Hydrogen Council representatives were taken on a site visit to the Make-in-India Green Hydrogen Plant at Kandla, a pioneering facility commissioned under India’s ongoing green energy push. This facility reflects DPA’s efforts towards maritime decarbonisation and sustainable port operations, drawing interest from international stakeholders keen on India’s hydrogen ecosystem development.
Officials from the port briefed the delegation on the port’s broader green infrastructure agenda, including scaling up hydrogen production and integrating clean fuels into port logistics and mobility solutions. The visits are seen as part of growing global engagement to harness renewable energy technologies and strengthen international partnerships in achieving net-zero emissions targets.
Deendayal Port Authority’s initiatives on green hydrogen—such as the 1 MW plant, part of a larger planned 10 MW facility—are aligned with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and its vision to position ports as clean energy hubs supporting the Maritime India Vision 2030.
The Belgian Hydrogen Council’s visit underscores increasing interest from European clean energy bodies in India’s rapidly advancing hydrogen sector, highlighting potential opportunities for technology exchange, investments and strategic collaborations in green hydrogen value chains.
