Apeejay Shipping, part of the Apeejay Surendra Group, is set to strengthen maritime connectivity to the islands with the induction of a new multi-purpose container vessel, APJ Karan 2.
The 3,000-tonne vessel, equipped with two 60-tonne cranes, will commence its maiden voyage to Port Blair in March. The launch marks the beginning of a dedicated liner service connecting Kolkata with the Andaman Islands.
The service will operate on a regular schedule, catering to a broad spectrum of cargo requirements. The initiative is aimed at enhancing regional maritime connectivity and strengthening logistics infrastructure in the island territory, facilitating smoother movement of goods and supporting economic activity.
Earlier, the company had expanded its fleet with the acquisition of two Kamsarmax bulk carriers — APJ Priya 2 and APJ Priti 2 — refurbished vessels built in Japan and inducted into operations in mid-2025. With the addition of APJ Karan 2, Apeejay Shipping continues to reinforce its presence in coastal and regional shipping operations.
