    Global container shipping company CMA CGM has successfully completed its first biomethanol bunkering operation in China, marking what the company describes as the country’s largest single refuelling of the alternative marine fuel. The milestone underscores the growing adoption of cleaner fuels in the maritime industry as shipping lines accelerate efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

    The bunkering operation involved supplying a significant volume of biomethanol to one of CMA CGM’s methanol-capable container vessels at a Chinese port, demonstrating the operational feasibility of large-scale alternative fuel supply in Asia’s major shipping hubs. The initiative forms part of the company’s broader strategy to transition toward low-carbon fuels and meet global decarbonisation targets.

    Industry observers note that the successful operation highlights the expanding infrastructure for green marine fuels in China and signals increased collaboration between shipping companies, fuel suppliers, and port authorities to support sustainable shipping.
