The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has appointed Anant Swarup as its new Secretary General, effective April 14, 2026. The move comes at a crucial time for Indian industry, as the chamber looks to strengthen its leadership amid evolving economic and policy challenges.

Swarup brings over three decades of experience spanning public policy, trade remedies, logistics, regulatory reform, and international negotiations. A 1992-batch Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer, he has held several key positions in the Government of India and the private sector.

His previous roles include Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Director General of Trade Remedies, Executive Director to the Union Minister of Railways, and First Secretary representing India at the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

FICCI said Swarup’s appointment reinforces its senior leadership team, with Jyoti Vij continuing in her role as Director General.

Swarup holds a Master’s Certificate in Sustainable Infrastructure and Finance, along with an MBA, LLB, and postgraduate and undergraduate degrees in Zoology.
