India has exported its first-ever One District One Product (ODOP) honey consignment from Assam to the United States, marking a significant milestone for the country’s agri-export and rural development initiatives. The shipment highlights Assam’s growing presence in the global honey market and showcases the success of the ODOP programme in promoting unique regional products internationally.

The export is expected to create new opportunities for local beekeepers, farmer-producer organisations, and small enterprises in Assam by expanding access to high-value overseas markets. Officials said the initiative will help boost rural incomes, strengthen value-added agricultural exports, and enhance the global recognition of Indian honey products.

The development also aligns with India’s broader strategy to diversify agri-exports and promote district-specific products under the ODOP framework, which aims to improve branding, processing, and international market access for local specialties.
