BW LNG has expanded its future fleet with an order for two additional LNG newbuild vessels at HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2029.

The latest order follows BW LNG’s earlier contract for two LNG carriers placed in November 2025, which are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2028. Together, the four sister vessels will represent a new generation of highly efficient LNG carriers designed to meet evolving global energy transportation needs.

According to the company, the vessels will feature the LNG industry’s first large-scale three-tank design, aimed at increasing cargo capacity while reducing boil-off rates without compromising operational flexibility. The innovative design has been developed in collaboration with GTT and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The newbuildings will also incorporate advanced energy-efficient technologies, including XDF 2.2 propulsion with Variable Compression Ratio (VCR), shaft generators, and a full reliquefaction system. BW LNG stated that these features are expected to deliver among the lowest fuel consumption and emissions levels in the LNG shipping sector.

The company said the repeat order underlines its continued commitment to safe, reliable, and sustainable energy transportation while supporting the transition toward a lower-carbon future.

BW LNG expects to take delivery of the four vessels between 2028 and 2029 as it continues to expand its LNG carrier and FSRU/FSU fleet portfolio.
