The reform roadmap focuses on accelerating cargo infrastructure development, streamlining regulatory processes and increasing the adoption of technology across the air freight ecosystem. The measures are intended to support the rapid growth of cargo volumes driven by expanding trade, e-commerce and manufacturing activity.
A key component of the strategy involves upgrading cargo handling facilities at airports and improving multimodal connectivity to ensure faster and more efficient movement of goods. The government is encouraging investments in modern cargo terminals, warehousing and cold-chain infrastructure to meet rising demand from exporters and importers.
The second pillar of the agenda centers on simplifying procedures and reducing operational bottlenecks. Authorities plan to work closely with industry stakeholders to improve ease of doing business through digitalization, faster clearances and better coordination among regulatory agencies involved in cargo movement.
Technology adoption forms the third element of the reform plan. The government aims to promote paperless processes, data-driven logistics management and integrated digital platforms that can enhance transparency, reduce processing times and improve supply chain visibility for cargo operators and customers.
The announcement comes as India seeks to expand its share of global trade and strengthen its logistics competitiveness. Air cargo plays a critical role in the movement of high-value, time-sensitive and perishable goods, including pharmaceuticals, electronics, engineering products and fresh produce.
Industry representatives have welcomed the proposed reforms, noting that improved infrastructure and streamlined procedures could help lower logistics costs and boost the efficiency of cargo operations.
