The Area-III South region of the Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) has achieved a significant milestone in regional freight connectivity with the successful development of Veldurthi Station (VDI) in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, as an Export Cargo Receiving Terminal (ECRT).
Following the successful trial movement of 80 TEUs, CONCOR has now dispatched its first full container rake comprising 90 TEUs of high-grade pig iron from Veldurthi to the ICPH/CONCOR Terminal in Punjab. The shipment covers a distance of nearly 2,300 kilometres, demonstrating the growing capability of India’s multimodal logistics network to facilitate long-distance cargo movement efficiently.
The development of Veldurthi as an ECRT is part of CONCOR’s ongoing new business initiatives aimed at expanding freight infrastructure and improving cargo accessibility for industries located away from major ports and logistics hubs. The new facility is expected to provide exporters and manufacturers in the Kurnool region with enhanced rail-based logistics connectivity, reducing transportation costs and transit time.
CONCOR said the successful movement reflects its commitment to delivering efficient, reliable, and sustainable freight solutions while strengthening India’s logistics backbone through expanded multimodal connectivity.
