The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has strengthened its partnership with the Government of Manipur to enhance the state’s export ecosystem through a series of high-level discussions focused on promoting handloom, textiles, MSMEs and export-ready enterprises.
Dr. Ajay Sahai, Director General & CEO of FIEO, accompanied by Ms. Juin Choudhury, held meetings with senior officials of the Manipur Government to explore initiatives aimed at improving export competitiveness and creating new opportunities for artisans, entrepreneurs and small businesses across the state.
The FIEO delegation met with Mr. Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary for Textiles, Commerce & Industry and Transport; Mr. Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, Chairman of Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO), in the presence of Mr. Ngangbam Roman Singh; Ms. Hannah Kahmei; and Mr. Thongam Gunindro Singh.
A key outcome of the discussions was the proposal to organise a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) with a dedicated focus on Manipur’s handloom and textile sector. The initiative aims to connect local producers with international buyers, helping expand export opportunities for the state’s renowned traditional products.
The discussions also highlighted the immense potential of Manipur’s handloom industry, which supports more than 2.44 lakh weavers, and explored measures to showcase their craftsmanship in global markets.
In addition, FIEO and the state government discussed conducting sensitisation and capacity-building programmes for 37 export-ready entrepreneurs, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to access international markets and strengthen export capabilities.
The collaboration will also focus on improving market access, enhancing export competitiveness in priority sectors, and creating a stronger ecosystem for MSMEs and artisans.
The joint initiative reflects the commitment of FIEO and the Government of Manipur to empower local enterprises, preserve traditional craftsmanship, and position Manipur as an emerging export hub in India’s Act East strategy and the global marketplace.
