Navalt Green Mobility has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) to establish a long-term strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric, hybrid-electric and solar-electric vessels in Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean region.
The MoU was signed at CMMI House in Larnaca by Sandith Thandasherry, CEO of Navalt Green Mobility, and Zacharias Siokouros, CEO of CMMI.
As part of the collaboration, the partners are targeting the launch of Cyprus’ first solar-electric passenger boats by April 2027, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards sustainable maritime transport.
The partnership combines Navalt’s expertise in clean marine technologies with CMMI’s research capabilities and innovation ecosystem. The agreement provides flexibility to execute projects based on customer requirements, including complete vessel construction in India, assembly in Cyprus using Navalt’s technology, or local manufacturing through technology transfer and engineering support.
Navalt has established itself as a pioneer in solar-electric marine mobility with a portfolio that includes Aditya, India’s first solar-electric ferry, Indra, India’s largest solar-electric ferry, Barracuda, India’s fastest solar-electric ferry, and SRAV, the world’s first solar-electric fishing boat. These projects have demonstrated the commercial viability of zero-emission water transport.
Beyond commercial passenger services, the collaboration will also explore the development and manufacturing of autonomous maritime vessels for defence applications, leveraging the growing strategic relationship between India and Cyprus.
The partnership is expected to strengthen international cooperation in sustainable maritime innovation while supporting the development of cleaner waterways and next-generation marine technologies across the Mediterranean region.
