Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced the launch of its new Imara Express (IMX) service, a dedicated weekly shipping connection between India and East Africa, further strengthening its presence across the African continent and enhancing trade connectivity between the two regions.
The new service complements PIL’s existing Asia–Africa network, offering customers expanded market access, direct weekly sailings, competitive transit times, and reliable schedules to support growing trade demand between India and East Africa.
Named after the Swahili word “Imara,” meaning strong, dependable, and resilient, the service reflects PIL’s commitment to delivering reliable shipping solutions and helping customers build more resilient supply chains.
The maiden voyage of the Imara Express is scheduled to commence from Nhava Sheva on September 23, 2026.
Commenting on the launch, William Ho, General Manager, Long-Haul Services, PIL, said: “PIL has been serving the Asia–Africa trade for decades, building deep market expertise, strong partnerships and a trusted network across the continent. The launch of Imara Express extends our existing Asia–Africa network and supports the growing trade flows between India and East Africa. Together with our existing services, IMX provides customers with a more comprehensive network package, expanding market access with greater flexibility, and more options to optimise their supply chain needs in an increasingly dynamic trading environment.”
The IMX service is designed to connect key manufacturing hubs in India with major consumer markets in East Africa, enabling faster cargo movement and improved supply chain efficiency.
