Etihad Cargo has transported more than 120 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal on behalf of the UAE Aid Agency, supporting communities affected by the recent landslides and severe flooding in the Himalayan country.
The relief shipment included essential supplies such as food, solar lights, blankets, tents and baby baskets, along with other emergency materials required by communities affected by the disaster. The air cargo operation is intended to support relief efforts and help ensure that critical supplies reach affected areas quickly.
The shipment forms part of the UAE’s wider humanitarian response to the disaster in Nepal. The UAE has pledged $10 million in humanitarian assistance and is working to transport emergency supplies to communities in need.
The UAE relief effort comes as Nepal continues to deal with the consequences of a devastating flash flood and landslides that caused extensive damage to infrastructure and left thousands of people missing. International organisations have warned that tens of thousands of people require urgent assistance, while damaged roads and bridges have complicated the delivery of relief materials.
Air cargo has become particularly important in the response because several affected areas are difficult to reach by road following the destruction of bridges and transport links. The ability to move large quantities of supplies by air allows humanitarian agencies to replenish stocks of food, shelter materials and other essentials more rapidly.
Etihad Cargo’s operation adds to a growing international relief effort. India has also delivered humanitarian supplies to Nepal, including blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets and hygiene kits, while deploying technical teams and equipment for search-and-rescue operations.
For Etihad Cargo, the operation highlights the role of air freight in humanitarian logistics, particularly when natural disasters disrupt conventional transport networks. The movement of more than 120 tonnes of supplies demonstrates how cargo aviation can support emergency response operations by providing rapid access to essential goods.
