South Korea is investing 10.5 billion won ($7.6 million) to support the adoption of smart logistics systems at the Busan New Port hinterland complex, as part of a new three-year programme running through 2028.
The initiative is being implemented by the Busan Port Authority (BPA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. It is the first government-funded smart logistics transition programme specifically targeting companies operating in a port hinterland complex.
Under the programme, five companies will be selected, including three small businesses and two innovation-focused companies. The government will cover up to 70% of eligible costs for installing smart logistics equipment and systems incorporating artificial intelligence, automation, integrated platforms and Internet of Things technologies.
Funding will be capped at 1.4 billion won per small-business recipient and 3.15 billion won per innovation-category company. The BPA plans to issue the programme notice and conduct a briefing in September, with recipients expected to be selected in October.
The programme is intended to improve logistics productivity, reduce operating costs and strengthen the competitiveness of companies based at Busan New Port. The investment also forms part of South Korea’s broader push to accelerate automation and digital transformation across its logistics infrastructure.
