Karachi Port recorded its highest-ever cargo and container handling during the last financial year, with total cargo throughput rising to a record 55.8 million tonnes, up from 53 million tonnes a year earlier.
The port handled 2,115 vessel calls during the year, highlighting sustained activity at Pakistan’s major maritime gateway.
Operating under the Prime Minister’s Task Force for Maritime Reforms, Karachi Port has supported Pakistan’s international trade for 138 years and remains a key link in the country’s maritime supply chain.
Disruptions to major global shipping routes have also created new transshipment opportunities for Karachi Port. Changing shipping patterns could strengthen its potential to emerge as a regional transshipment and cargo hub.
The record throughput underscores Karachi Port’s growing role in Pakistan’s maritime trade and its potential to benefit from evolving global shipping routes.
