The Centre is considering an extension of the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) scheme beyond its current September 30 deadline, a move that could provide continued support to India’s apparel and made-up textile exporters.

RoSCTL refunds embedded central and state taxes and levies on eligible exports, helping exporters offset domestic tax costs that are not otherwise refunded through existing mechanisms. The scheme is particularly important for the labour-intensive textiles and apparel sector.

The possible extension comes as exporters face an evolving global trade environment, including changing tariff structures and competitive pressures in key international markets. Industry representatives have been seeking policy continuity to provide greater certainty for export orders and pricing.

An extension would allow eligible exporters to continue claiming rebates on qualifying shipments after the existing validity period, subject to the government’s final decision and any revised terms.

The textiles and apparel industry is an important contributor to India’s merchandise exports and provides significant employment across manufacturing and allied activities. Continued export support is also being viewed in the context of India’s efforts to expand its presence in global textile markets.

The government is expected to take a decision on the RoSCTL extension before the existing scheme period ends.
