Maersk has reduced its Emergency Cost Surcharge (ECS) on the S5S service connecting India and South Africa, lowering the additional charges applicable to shipments on the route.

The adjustment forms part of Maersk’s ongoing review of surcharges linked to changing operating and market conditions. The revised ECS will apply to eligible cargo moving on the S5S service, subject to the carrier’s applicable terms and conditions.

The India–South Africa trade route is an important link for containerised cargo between the two markets, supporting the movement of manufactured goods, commodities and other commercial shipments.

A reduction in the surcharge could help lower the additional logistics costs faced by exporters and importers using the service. However, overall freight costs will continue to depend on base ocean rates, fuel-related charges, port costs and other applicable fees.

Maersk has been regularly adjusting its surcharge structure across global services in response to changes in operating expenses, capacity and market conditions.

The latest revision provides shippers using the S5S service with updated cost terms for cargo moving between India and South Africa.
