Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) plans to invest around ₹15,000 crore to develop a greenfield shipyard at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, strengthening its shipbuilding capacity and supporting the expansion of India’s maritime manufacturing sector.
The proposed facility is expected to add new shipbuilding infrastructure and provide MDL with additional capacity to undertake large and advanced vessel construction projects. The investment forms part of the company’s longer-term plans to expand its production capabilities as demand for commercial and defence vessels grows.
A greenfield shipyard at Dugarajapatnam could also support the development of a wider maritime industrial ecosystem in the region. Shipbuilding projects typically generate demand for engineering, fabrication, marine equipment, logistics and other ancillary services, creating opportunities for supporting industries.
