Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Ltd (KMEW) has secured a contract worth ₹279 crore from the Mumbai Port Authority for the construction and supply of green tugs, strengthening its presence in India’s growing port-led maritime infrastructure sector.
The contract covers the development of environmentally friendly harbour tugs designed to support vessel-handling and marine operations at Mumbai Port. The project is aligned with the port sector’s increasing focus on cleaner and more energy-efficient marine equipment.
The order is expected to add to KMEW’s project pipeline and expand its role in the modernisation of India’s port infrastructure. Green tugs are increasingly being adopted by ports to reduce emissions and improve the environmental performance of harbour operations.
Mumbai Port Authority has been pursuing initiatives aimed at upgrading its marine fleet and supporting greener port operations. The new vessels will contribute to these efforts while enhancing the port’s tug-handling capabilities.
