The Port of Brisbane handled a record 1.74 million TEUs in FY26, marking a new high in container throughput and reflecting continued growth in trade through Queensland’s major container gateway.
The record performance highlights sustained demand for containerised imports and exports through the port. Higher cargo volumes were supported by activity across a range of industries and consumer markets served by the port.
The Port of Brisbane is Queensland’s principal freight hub and plays a key role in connecting Australian businesses with international markets. Its container terminals handle a broad mix of cargo, including consumer goods, machinery, agricultural products and manufactured goods.
The increase in throughput also underscores the importance of efficient port infrastructure and landside connections as containerised trade expands. Road and rail links connecting the port with industrial and distribution centres across southeast Queensland remain critical to cargo flows.
The record comes as global shipping networks continue to adjust to changing trade patterns, vessel schedules and supply-chain conditions. Ports are responding by improving capacity, terminal efficiency and landside logistics to manage growing container volumes.
For shipping lines, freight operators and cargo owners, higher throughput at Brisbane provides greater scale and connectivity for international trade. Continued volume growth is also expected to increase the focus on infrastructure, terminal capacity and efficient cargo evacuation.
The 1.74 million-TEU milestone in FY26 reinforces the Port of Brisbane’s position as a major container gateway for Queensland and demonstrates the continuing expansion of containerised trade through the region.
