India’s shrimp exports crossed the 80,000-tonne mark in July, with shipments rising about 1% compared with the same month last year, reflecting steady overseas demand for Indian seafood.
The increase comes as shrimp remains one of India’s leading seafood export commodities, with major markets including the United States, China, Southeast Asia and other international destinations.
The export performance highlights continued activity across India’s shrimp processing and aquaculture supply chains. Coastal states, particularly Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, remain important centres for shrimp farming and processing.
Exporters, however, continue to monitor international prices, freight costs, currency movements and market access conditions. Changes in import regulations and demand in key destinations can also influence shipment volumes and realisations.
The modest year-on-year rise in July indicates that Indian shrimp exporters maintained shipment levels despite a challenging global seafood market. Industry players are expected to focus on improving processing efficiency, product quality and market diversification to support future export growth.
With shipments exceeding 80,000 tonnes during the month, India’s shrimp industry continues to play a significant role in the country’s seafood export trade.
