The Port of London is seeing stronger cargo activity as trade between the UK and Japan expands, supporting increased movement of goods through London’s port and logistics network.

Growing commercial links between the two countries are contributing to higher demand for maritime transport and logistics services. The trade flows cover a range of commodities and manufactured products moving between the UK and Japanese markets.

Japan is an important trading partner for the UK, with bilateral commerce supported by the UK-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Improved trade conditions and supply-chain links are creating opportunities for businesses on both sides.

The increase in Japan-related cargo highlights the importance of London’s port facilities in supporting international trade. The Port of London Authority oversees a large network of terminals and wharves along the River Thames, handling a diverse mix of cargo.

The port’s location provides access to major consumer and industrial markets in and around London, while its connections with road, rail and other logistics networks support the onward movement of imported and exported goods.

The growth in Japan-related trade comes as UK supply chains continue to diversify their international connections. Rising cargo activity also demonstrates how changes in bilateral trade flows can influence volumes at regional ports.

Port stakeholders are expected to continue supporting efficient cargo handling and logistics connections as trade between the UK and Japan develops.
