The Ministry of Textiles is targeting the addition of 5,000–10,000 new exporters over the next two to three years as part of efforts to broaden India’s textile export base and bring more businesses into international markets.

The initiative is expected to focus on helping more textile and apparel companies, particularly smaller businesses, develop the capabilities needed to enter overseas markets. Expanding the exporter base could provide greater opportunities for Indian manufacturers to tap demand across global markets.

The ministry’s plans come as India seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of its textile and apparel sector and increase its presence in international trade. A larger pool of exporters could also help diversify India’s export destinations and product offerings.

Support for new exporters is likely to include greater access to information on overseas markets, export procedures, quality standards and international buyers. Improving awareness and market readiness can help smaller manufacturers overcome some of the barriers associated with entering global markets.

The move is also expected to complement broader efforts to integrate more textile companies into global supply chains. India’s textile sector has a large manufacturing base, but a significant share of smaller firms remains focused on the domestic market.

By bringing thousands of additional businesses into exports, the Ministry of Textiles aims to strengthen the sector’s international footprint and create a wider base of companies contributing to India’s merchandise exports.

The target of 5,000–10,000 new exporters within two to three years represents an effort to make export participation more widespread across India’s textile industry.
