Russia’s agricultural exports to India rose 11% in volume during the first nine months of the year, reaching 1.3 million tonnes between January and September, according to Russian agricultural export agency Agroexport.

Sunflower oil accounted for the largest share of export earnings, generating $1.2 billion out of the total $1.45 billion in Russian agricultural exports to India during the period.

Agroexport said the January–September shipment volume was the second-highest on record for the corresponding period, following the 2.5 million tonnes exported in 2024, valued at $1.7 billion.

The growth comes as India and Russia seek to expand bilateral economic ties, with both countries targeting $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said on Sunday that bilateral trade had grown by more than 20% so far this year.

Volodin has also called for the removal of trade barriers and the expansion of joint ventures to sustain trade growth and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

Alongside agricultural trade, Moscow has increased purchases of Indian products, including chemicals, electrical goods, medical equipment, seafood, tea and spices, highlighting the growing diversification of bilateral trade flows.

The rise in Russian agricultural shipments reinforces the importance of India as a major destination for Russian food commodities, particularly sunflower oil, while the two countries continue efforts to broaden trade beyond traditional sectors.
