Transport Corporation of India Limited (TCI) has taken delivery of its new 500-TEU cellular container vessel, TCI SETU, on October 29, 2026, strengthening its maritime logistics capabilities under its TCI Seaways division.

The vessel was acquired under an agreement with China-based shipbuilder Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering Co. Ltd. The delivery follows the company’s initial announcement in July 2024 regarding the construction of two vessels of this type. The investment in TCI SETU amounts to ₹178.82 crore, funded entirely through internal accruals.

The addition is expected to enhance TCI Seaways’ fleet capacity and support its growing coastal shipping operations. The division currently operates six vessels with a combined deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 78,120 tonnes and manages a fleet of more than 8,500 marine containers.

TCI Seaways operates across India’s East and West coasts, connecting major ports and coastal destinations. On the East Coast, four vessels serve routes linking Chennai with the Andaman Islands and Myanmar, as well as Visakhapatnam with the Andaman Islands.

On the West Coast, two vessels operate on shipping corridors connecting Kandla with Kochi, Tuticorin and Mangaluru.

The delivery of TCI SETU marks another step in TCI’s efforts to expand its coastal shipping capabilities and strengthen multimodal logistics connectivity across India.
