    MoPSW Sarbananda Sonowal while adressing the audience at the Deloitte India Government Summit 2023 highlighted the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) initiative, emphasizing its focus on constructing advanced mega ports in India. Specifically, he underscored the significance of the Vadhavan and Tuna Tekra development projects as crucial components supporting IMEEC.

    Expressing pride in Cochin Shipyard Ltd.’s achievement, Sonowal announced the successful delivery of autonomous electric barges to Norway. He asserted that this technological leap would reshape the future of the maritime industry.

    Discussing the IMEC plan’s role in connecting India to the Middle East and Europe through shipping lines, Sonowal reiterated the commitment to building next-generation mega ports. He specifically pointed to the Vadhavan and Tuna Tekra developments as essential projects bolstering IMEEC.

    Providing project specifics, India is actively engaged in a INR 76,000 crore initiative to develop the Vadhavan port in Dahanu, Maharashtra, with a projected throughput of 308 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2040. Additionally, the Tuna Tekra development, a INR 4,200 crore container terminal in Kandla, Gujarat, is part of these strategic endeavors.
