Hong Kong-based container shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has revealed that two of its latest 24,188 TEU containerships started operation.

As disclosed, the boxships OOCL Finland and OOCL Sweden recently began their maiden voyage. OOCL Finland was named at a ceremony held on April 25, 2024. The vessel arrived at Xiamen on May 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, OOCL Sweden was christened at a ceremony that took place on April 23, 2024. The ship marked its maiden arrival in Shanghai on June 2, 2024.

With the introduction of these two new vessels, OOCL has taken delivery of ten eco-friendly mega containerships of the same model, marking an important milestone in the company’s fleet upgrade.

The naming ceremony for the eighth vessel in this class, OOCL Abu Dhabi, was held in February 2024. In January this year, OCL introduced its seventh 24,000+ TEU newbuild, OOCL Valencia.

OOCL Finland and OOCL Sweden were constructed by Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) and Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS), respectively.

The two vessels are serving OOCL’s Asia-Europe service LL1.
