New FASTag rules have come into effect from today that require users to update their account to avoid inconvenience at toll plazas. The regulations are required in order to simplify toll plaza, reduce confusion, and maintain seamless operation on national highways.

The Know Your Customer (KYC) process is one of the biggest modifications. Beginning on August 1, FASTag accounts that are five years old or older must be updated.

It is recommended that users verify the date of issuance of their FASTag accounts and request replacements from the authorities that issued them, as the previous accounts will no longer be functional.

Furthermore, accounts that are three years or older must update their KYC information. If the FASTag accounts don’t follow the new KYC standards, they risk being blocked.

The requirement to link the FASTag account to the owner’s phone number, the vehicle’s registration number, and the chassis number is another important development. The goal of this modification is to prevent FASTag abuse, which previously permitted the use of one account for many vehicles.

Using a single FASTag account per car is now required as of April. To finish the connecting process, users also need to upload pictures of the front and side of the car. The registration number needs to be updated within three months of the purchase date for new cars bought after August 1.
