India’s maritime and energy sectors marked a landmark achievement with the inauguration of the country’s first dedicated VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) terminal at Mundra Port. Developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), the facility represents a major leap in enhancing India’s crude oil import infrastructure.

Engineered with an exceptionally deep draft and advanced marine systems, the terminal is designed to berth and handle some of the world’s largest crude carriers efficiently and safely. The ability to directly accommodate VLCCs is expected to significantly reduce logistics costs, improve vessel turnaround times, and enhance operational efficiency.

A key strategic advantage of the project is the 489-kilometre dedicated pipeline connecting the terminal to the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery in Barmer. This direct linkage enables seamless evacuation of crude oil from port to refinery, ensuring faster, safer, and more reliable transportation while minimizing intermediate handling.

The commissioning of the terminal is set to strengthen India’s energy security, optimize crude supply chains, and reinforce the country’s position as a leading maritime hub in the region. The project underscores APSEZ’s continued commitment to developing world-class port infrastructure and integrated logistics solutions aligned with India’s long-term energy and economic growth objectives.
