DP World’s Marine Services arm, Shipping Solutions, has acquired DP World Chennai, a 5,000+ TEU container vessel, and deployed it on its Red Sea–Gulf–India service, reinforcing trade connectivity between India and the Middle East.

The vessel marked its maiden call at Jebel Ali Port, taking Shipping Solutions’ total owned capacity to over 6 million TEU. The addition is expected to enhance schedule reliability and service consistency across key regional markets.

Ganesh Raj, Global COO, Marine Services, DP World, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s ability to deliver dependable and scheduled connections across the India–Middle East corridor. He emphasized that the move goes beyond capacity expansion, focusing on improving flexibility and ensuring predictable, on-time cargo delivery for customers navigating modern supply chains.

The development aligns with DP World’s broader strategy to build a more resilient and diversified network through a balanced mix of owned assets, continuous investment, and deeper integration between its port and marine operations. As regional trade volumes continue to grow, the company aims to enhance planning predictability and adapt to evolving logistics requirements.

Earlier this year, Shipping Solutions advanced to 15th position in the global Top 50 carriers ranking published by Alphaliner, underscoring the expanding strength of its network and customer partnerships.

DP World is also deepening its long-term commitment to India’s trade infrastructure, with plans to invest $5 billion in the coming years. In addition, Shipping Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, to collaborate on developing and scaling sustainable coastal and shortsea shipping services across the country.
