Shri Mukesh Mangal, ITS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, visited V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority on Friday and reviewed various development initiatives and ongoing projects undertaken by the Port.
A key highlight of the visit was the inauguration of an Atmospheric Water Generator at the Port’s North Fire Station. The unit produces safe drinking water from atmospheric humidity through multi-level filtration and mineral enrichment, reinforcing the Port’s focus on sustainability and innovative solutions.
As part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ celebrations, Shri Mukesh Mangal participated in the flag-hoisting ceremony at the 30-metre-high Flag Mast in front of the Green Gate. He also flagged off the CISF Rally from the Green Gate to the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS) Roundana and the Employees Rally from the Green Gate to the Administrative Office. The programme was followed by the singing of Vande Mataram.
The Port organised a series of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ activities, including distribution of National Flags to officers and staff and hoisting of flags at the residences of Port employees and CISF personnel, Port tugs, Indian vessels, Port establishments and various operational locations.
During his visit, Shri Mukesh Mangal inspected the Green Hydrogen Plant, Green Methanol Bunkering & Refuelling Facility and various operational areas of the Port. He also visited the Digital Twin Centre, where he was briefed on the Port’s digital transformation initiatives and technology-driven operational systems.
Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, made a detailed presentation covering the Port’s performance, ongoing development projects and future plans.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mukesh Mangal appreciated the Port’s emphasis on quality, cleanliness and green initiatives. He also commended the Port’s contribution towards the upcoming shipbuilding cluster and its efforts to promote the welfare of the Port community.
Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit conveyed that the visit of the Additional Secretary provided valuable guidance and an opportunity for constructive interaction on the Port’s ongoing activities. He expressed confidence that such interactions would further strengthen coordination between V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
