    A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), was part of the Indian business delegation accompanying Piyush Goyal during his visit to London for UK-India Week 2026.

The visit coincided with preparations for the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), both scheduled to come into effect on 15 July 2026. The agreements are expected to deepen bilateral trade and economic cooperation while creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

Dr. Sakthivel thanked Narendra Modi for his leadership in advancing the trade partnership and acknowledged Shri Goyal’s role in concluding the landmark agreement. He also congratulated the Commerce Minister on receiving the “Exceptional Leadership in Elevating UK-India Ties” award.

During the visit, Dr. Sakthivel met with Peter Kyle to discuss ways to strengthen India-UK cooperation in trade, innovation and investment. He highlighted the significant growth prospects that the India-UK CETA is expected to create for India’s apparel and textile export sector.
