Indian Railways has awarded Alstom a major contract to provide maintenance support for electric locomotives, strengthening the company’s role in India’s expanding railway modernisation programme.

The agreement, valued at around €107 million, will focus on ensuring the reliable performance and long-term operational efficiency of electric locomotive fleets. The maintenance programme is expected to include technical support, servicing, and other lifecycle management activities.

The contract highlights Indian Railways’ continued efforts to improve locomotive reliability, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen rail infrastructure across the country. Regular maintenance and advanced service solutions are considered essential as rail networks expand and freight and passenger demand increase.

Alstom’s involvement builds on its existing partnership with Indian Railways, including support for advanced locomotive technologies and rail mobility solutions. The company has been playing a key role in India’s shift toward higher-capacity and more efficient rail operations.

Industry experts said the agreement reflects the growing importance of specialised maintenance services in railway operations, helping reduce downtime, improve asset performance, and extend the lifespan of critical equipment.

The latest contract further strengthens Alstom’s position in India’s rail sector as the country continues investing in electrification, freight corridors, and sustainable transportation infrastructure.
